need help please on auto to manual swap
well to start off i got a 98 civic coupe dx with an auto trans i would have never purchased with a auto trans but got a great deal on it from a auto auction only paid 4500.00 for it . i bought a b18c1 just motor i got it from a junkyard who would only sell the motor not trans or ecu..etc etc.. i need to swap my auto trans for a man trans and axles that will be capadable with my motor i would like to do the trans swap first because the motor is being rebuilt and is going to take me awhile to get it all together, i was just wondering if someone has ever done this and everything i need and around about cost or if there is a website for the swap thank you
First of all, there is no need at all to swap axles if all you are doing is a B18C swap into a 6g Civic. You should have just bought the motor with tranny to save yourself trouble though. I did an auto to manual swap on my 97 Civic hatch at the same time I swapped in a B18C. You'll need everything that comes with a manual Civic. I've said this so many times I'm surprised I always forget, but a couple things you will need are a manual pedal assembly, clutch master and slave cylinders, manual transmission(duh!), and ECU for manual tranny engine and the all important clutch fluid reservoir. It's straight bolt on affair. People who say its hard just can't imagine doing something like this and automatically assume it is difficult if not impossible to do. My car runs fine. Only tip off is I don't have to engage the clutch to start my engine, hehe...good luck.
I am really glad to know this can be done, furthermore it is not incredibly difficult. Thanx. I have an auto ef and would like to convert it to manual in the future. At least I would keep that in mind. I was about to give up my thought on auto to manual swap. Thnax again for the info.

if the newer civics work anything like the preludes and accords do, then you won't need to change the ecu, just get rid of the small ecu that runs the tranny. that is all that runs the tranny. everything else in the car goes with the main ecu and fuse box. but, unless i am wrong and the civics are different, there should be two ecus. one for the car, one for the auto tranny.
Well, I was referring to 6g civics in terms of ease of an auto to 5spd conversion. I believe on EF's and EG's, you will need to reweld the tranny mounts, but other than that, I would assume it is rather straightforward as well.

I have done the swap a couple of times. it is involved, but not to difficult.
