just put a b16a1 into a 90 si hatch....drove it about 5 miles and check engine light came on...so i look at ecu for code and it throwing a CODE 17...which is the VSS (VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR)...so my question is how does this code come up??i got the mechanical one and my odometer reads just fine...can it only be the sensor in the trans or does something else throw it???i was led to beleive that my odometer wouldn't work is this false???can it still be bad and work???and if my odometer is ran off the speedo wire then whats throwing the code if there are not direct wires going to the ecu from the tranny???anybodys help would be muchly appreciated....thanks

 

if your speedo is working. clean it up and regrease it and re fit it ino the tranny and cluster ...... thats the only thing that tells your speedo to move .. mabe that will help ya..

 

VSS is located in dash cluster behind speedo. Very possible cause of failure.
