NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!

i have a 2008 civic si and when I get to 5k-6k when vtec is supposed to kick in it don't. I need help figuring out what the issue is.

Check for any stored codes first.

I have a all stock k20z3 si and on the air box you have a top hose and bottom hose and when I connected the bottom one it cause my vtec to not fire so I just disconnected it again and it fixed the problem.
