don't go 3" unless you have a turbo, it will hurt your performance greatly!!!
If you are running a 1.8 or smaller go with a 2.25" NO BIGGER!!!
Oh and make sure it is a strait through muffler!!!

He said make sure it's a straight through MUFFLER. He didn't say anything about taking the cat out. Leave the cat there is won't really give you that much performance to take it out. He just said to make sure and get a performance muffler that has a straight through design so it's not restrictive. Then after the performance muffler get 2.25 in. mandrel bent pipes. OR just get a performance cat back exhaust system that features a straight through muffler with 2.25 piping. But since you said that your dad works at a muffler shop, I think it would be cheaper to just get the muffler and have him make the rest of the piping to the Cat.

The cat needs to stay ON. Taking the cat of produces polution, only 1-2 hp, and if caught a $3000.00 fine.
