Default Need help with car shut down while driving to work.

I have a 2004 honda civic lx. I'm stumped right now, and I need help figuring this out. I was driving to work Friday morning and the car was fine. Then out of no were the car decided to shut off. I pulled over and tried to start the car up again but it couldn't. I have a brand new battery in, and it turns over when I try start it. To me it sounds like the engine is locked up. But I'm hoping that's not it. I would like to know what's the problem so I don't buy parts that I don't need to change. Much appreciated for the help and the answers.
