Default Need help ASAP/brake question....

Okay, I just installed new brakes front and back for my teg; front rotors are resurfaced and rear are brand new brembos + new pads front and back. I bled the brake system in sequence via the helm's manual. Now the problem is: when I pump the brakes w/ car off, everything feels raised and normal, but when I start up the car and take it down the street, the pedal goes all the way down when suppressed and the steering wheel/brakes shake really hard--not wanting to stop. The pedal always go down like that everytime the car is on and moving. I've checked for leaks at my master cylinder and all calipers: nothing, no leaks. My master cylinder is in perfect working condition. What could it be?
Tia.

um, sorry, but you have to bleed your brakes again...

unless you broke something (which it does not sound like...)

(one time i had to do bleed my brakes 5 times before i was satisfied with the peddel feel - i used about 500mml of brake fluid that time!!! )

t..

PS the shaking could be hte pads trying to set themselves without having enough pressure to sit properly...

I don't know if this could've did any wrong but also when I first put the front pads on, I pumped my brakes and forgot the rear had no pads and the piston came all the way out; So I took the piston boot seal off in order to screw the piston back in and reapplied the boot seal. I double checked the rear calipers and there was no leaks, so I guess there's no problem there.
Any other input would be greatly appreciated since I already can guarantee that there is no air left in my brake lines to really bleed (double checked already).

how do you double check that there is no air in the lines???

do you have x-ray vision?

ps it probly would have been good to point this out first up:

"I took the piston boot seal off in order to screw the piston back in and reapplied the boot seal"

anything else that you are not telling us?

I bled the system more than once, that is how I doublechecked and there was no more air.
If anyone else can input some suggestions instead of smart a$$ remarks, I'd appreciated it. Thanks.

Bleed the brakes with the car on, as the brake booster is not functioning with it off. I had the same problems. I then bled the system with the car on (twice) and the problem was solved.

Your problem is indicative of air in your lines. Do it again. BTW there is no possible way to be absolutely sure that all air has been removed, short of using some very unpractical equipment.

Also, quit being a b*tch. You are asking for help and tinkerbell is offering it. The advice he/she gave is very reasonable.

Aight thanks, I'll try bleeding the brakes with the car on. Also I wanna apologize to Tinkerbell for the misunderstanding; Didn't mean to create any type of animosity--just f*#kin stressed and worried that it could be anything more severe like having to replace calipers, etc...broke as hell right now.

dude, thats cool, maybe i should have been a little more direct in telling you that i thought nothing was wrong and that all you needed was to bleed hte brakes again, and again and again...

...untill they feel right.

but i wasnt 100% sure, and brakes are really important.

been there, done that.

dont always expect the worst!!!

Man, just bled the brakes two times more with the car on but it did no good; as I drove down the block and pressed on the brake, the pedal went down almost all the way again and my steering wheel+front brakes/wheels shook eratically (keep in mind that the fr. rotors are freshly resurfaced & brand new pads, but still this). What's weird is that when my car is off or at idle, the brakes feel fine when pumped; but when the car is in gear and moving the brakes goes far down & shakes when suppressed. I don't know what to check next. Anybody with any other ideas??

OK,

it STILL sounds like air in the lines.

how are you bleeding the brakes?

have you checked the rear calipers since the drive? no leaks?

brake bleeding:
1. attach hose to nipple and put end of hose in container with brake fluid covering hte end of hose.
2. loosen hte nipple and re-tighten;
3. have someone apply pressue to brakes and hold it;
4. loosen nipple and allow fluid to be released into container;
5. tighten nipple;
6. have someone apply pressue to brakes and hold it;
7. loosen nipple and allow fluid to be released into container;
8. tighten nipple;

repeat 3-8 until no air bubbles are seen leaving the tube.

do all four brakes starting with left rear, then right front, then right rear then left front(?)

HTH,

t..

PS i think the shaking is due to the lack of pressure allowing the pads to skip on the fresh rotors...

Yeah that's how I bled them except I have the guy applying pressure to pump the pedal about 5x before holding it down. I also did it in the sequence my Helm's manual told me, which was RR, LF, LR, RF. I checked for leaks at my master cylinder, front, and rear calipers as the brakes were being pumped also--no leaks though. I'm puzzled Anything else??

i am puzzeled also.

did you have spacers/shims that went between the pads and the calipers?

did you re-use these?

are you sure they are the correct pads?

hmmmm, you could take it to a brake shop and ask for a pressure bleed?

or ask em whats wrong.

hopefully someone else might have a suggestion...
