Need A/C HELP!!!
Ok... I need help here...
As it goes... When i bought my car, the a/c was shot, the compressor broke down, sending metal shavings through the entire system. So i bought a used compressor for $40, a new drier for $40 and then payed $250 to have the system flushed, the new parts installed, and the system charged. That was about 3 months ago... I took it into the shop (same shop i had the work done at) on wednesday... They told me that the compressor was bad again, and sending metal shavings through the system again. They blamed it on me buying the used compressor. The symptoms were: 1) the air being cool, but not cold... And 2) The compressor was locking up, causing the car to lurch...
Today i decided to take it to a different shop, this one being one that specializes in automotive a/c, so that i could get a second diagnosis (i didnt mention that i already got it diagnosed by a different shop)... They basically said the same thing as the other shop, except they also noticed that the expansion valve was shot... Where the other shop didnt notice that...
I was doing research on a/c and came across a page that said it is known as the "Black Death"... and results from a catastrophic breakdown of the refrigerant-lubricant that causes excessive wear in the compressor, causing it to break apart and send metal shavings through the entire system.... I read the symptoms, and they match my symptoms... It sounds like this is what happened BOTH times... It says this is caused by there not being the proper amount of oil in the system, or the flushing not be thourough enough, and contaminents were still in the system, and broke loose, traveled to the compressor and damaged the compressor.
Now what im tryin to figure out, is if this is caused by fault of the shop, or what... If it is caused by them not discovering the expansion valve, or not flushing the system thouroughly... Then if i can somehow prove this, i can take it up with them to try to get them to repair it at their expense... I just dont know if i have a leg to stand on here cuz i used a used compressor...
Here are the links to 2 of the sites i got info from:

I'm having the exact same problem. I get semi-cold air, as well as the car lurching while driving. I wasn't sure what was causing it, but by reading this, it sounds expensive. Maybe I'll just take my A/C out and get power windows
