Default Need advise with crv

Hey guys. I have a 1998 honda cr-v. I am stumped on my next step.
The car failed smog(california) today. It registered as a gross polluter. So the catalytic needs to be replaced.
My question is: do all b series use the same catalytic converter? Which would allow me to use a cat from a civic.
second option is: would I need to go with a California catalytic converter or could opt out for a universal one? Would the universal one throw a check engine light and fail the tail pipe test? The main goal is to get the at to pass smog. Thanks.

As long as cat is "compliant" where you are your good.
Check part numbers, go to ... Honda Automotive Parts find the P/N for your car an check other Hondas of the same year, [to start with] warning OEM cats are not cheap,
your better off with an OEM "replacement" cat, as long as it is compliant, or are you thinking a used one? 94
