Default n/a b16 power

After wanting to go turbo for a while, I recently got an uncontrollable urge for all-motor. I don't really understand why, but I want it.

So here's my question for a b16a '88 crx HF:
How much power can I get out of it?

I'm willing to up the compression, do head work, raise rpms etc.

I don't care too much for torque so I'm willing to hog out the head, as long as it's still drivable.

Another requirement is reliability. I don't want to keep tabs on how often I redline it. When I had a b16 I would redline it all the time, even unnecessarily so such as when cruising on the highway. I want that freedom. That will obviously put a cap on how high I can rev it (8500rpm?)

Also, I'm not interested in boring it out or stroking it for personal reasons

Could I get reasonable power from this route, or should I just scrap the idea and boost it? I couldn't find a specific enough answer by searching.

Well get your basic intake and header so your motor will breathe easier. Then you want some juicy cams, but I doubt you'll get THAT much power out of a 1.6. A better option for all motor is a B18C1 swap. Since your not willing to bore your motor, just get a GSR block, or LS/B20 block but I would not reccommend a Frank motor.

Yeah, definitely allmotor needs more displacement... 1.8L has a lot of potential in that arena. Now if you're willing to do the valves, valvesprings, etc you shouldn't have much of a problem taking it to 8500rpm, especially if you have enough cam to keep up. I hope he doesn't mind my posting this, but there's a guy on the board called Tony the Tiger or somethin' like that with an allmotor Integra that he takes up to 9500rpm (I have it on video). You might want to ask him about his setup if he's willing to talk about it.

The key for allmotor is airflow... not getting the maximum airflow, but optimizing air flow patterns. Try to get the smoothest intake shot, only turbulence when it helps to mix air with incoming fuel, avoid flow restrictions... you're a lot more limited so it's a lot more nitpicking but SO rewarding! Nothing is cooler than a hellaciously fast allmotor car!

all motor needs displacement since when, BISI runs 10's with his 1.5 sohc 88 hf. ....just depends on money.

... except that Bisi's 1.5L engine is now a 2.2L engine... try again later

Thanks for the replies.

So displacement is key....
I don't really know if I'm prepared to go with a bigger motor. I don't know why, just my personality I guess. I like the "purity" of the b16, if that makes any sense.

Do you guys think I could at least realistically get 200-220 hp (at flywheel) out of a b16 with what I mentioned I'm willing to do? If not, I guess I'll need that turbo...

As for Tony the Tiger, I can see taking that motor up that high, but I can't believe it would last as long as I'd like. The way I drove my b16 (I delivered pizza with it, redlining every gear) I came to the conclusion that it could last virtually indefinately at 8000rpms. Where I used to work, they dynoed an S2000 motor for 25 hours at 8500rpms. I guess Honda told them to expect a rocker or something to fatigue and break at around 350 hours. That's the kind of reliability I want.

:sigh: But it DOES have a displacement increase... any increase... right?
