I'd say your best bet is to research when VTEC is set to engage for your particular vehicle/motor/ECU and then listen for the subtle change at that rpm. It's pretty noticeable with b and k series.
its a b16a. i took it maybe 1k-1.5k before red line then shifted to next gear on the soundclip. i'll try to make another clip.
i really cant determine if there's a transition or crossover in sound, it should pop right? vtec is at 5.5k on b series.

If you can take it to redline with no CELs then it's working.
If your next question is to ask how to make it kick in harder or louder, prepare to get flamed.

i see, so i should definitely hear the transition as i have a loud exhaust. does it have to somewhat pop? on the soundclip im not sure if its hitting on 0:02 seconds.
No two cars seem to sound the same. Look it up. It's been asked too many times. "How to make my VTEC louder."
Where is the person recording this clip. Are they inside the car or you made them stand near the road and you drove by? It sounds like before shifting gear vtec did engange but after the shift you cant really notice as if the car was far away IF the person recordi g stood outside.
