Why didn't you just drop a B16A or B18C in there? You'd be running the same times for a lot less and you'd have a lot more stuff you could do.
Last night at Capitol Raceway (Crofton, MD), my buddy made 5 runs in his 1989 CRX with d16a6 blcok and d16y8 head plus ll.2:l pistons, ram air - thru the headlight hole, and removed seats -
14.17
14.12
14.11
14.037
13.994 @ 97.45 mph
So the stuff can run...Hey his head anc block STOCK otherwise....

why don't I just buy a DOHC? hrmmmmm, let me think about that... because I don't want to. Satisfied? Sick and tired of people trying to preach the DOHC swap. This has been my plan all along. Yes with the money I have spent on my car ~10K canadian~ I could have done one hella of a DOHC engine swap, but that is not what I ever wanted to do.
so you would spend more money to go slower than you would if you were smarter???
U are dumb!
so do u plan on runnning your 14's in canadian?/?
CDMSOHC (canadian domesic market) must have a lot more horse power than the american one, otherwise it would sound like a pretty dumb thing to do..... what, 10K canadian works out to what, ...$50 american??

I was just asking a question, no need for an ******* reply. And you never did answer it. Do you like the engine more than the DOHC engines? Do you want to be different? Is there a lack of DOHC engines up there?
gearhead313, why the *** does it matter to you if I spend that much money on my car? O right, cause that is more than your trailor cost, with your wife/cousin included.
The entire purpose was not to be different, or to be better than any other Honda. Modyfing my car is just a hobby.
There are tons of DOHC hatches here, and that is not what I was after. Sorry if I came off as an ******* (to you), but I am very touchy when it comes to people asking me why I did not go the DOHC route.
As far as me liking the DOHC engines, we used to have 2 NSXs and loved them.

gubo22-Is that the finished product or is there more future plans for the motor?
Red Civic-Is there a big turn out on friday nights at Capitol? I'd like to go just to see what I can do, but the past few weeks it's rained.

gearhead313: Dude, that's pretty low... let the man do it his way... does it really matter to you what he ends up running? One way or the other, as long as he has pride in what he ends up with, it's all good.
FYI, $10,000 CDN is about $6000 US. But since things tend to be more expensive in the US, it's actually worth more than that (CDs cost me $13 on average... about $8 US).

Capitol on Friday nite is crazy - better get there when the gates open at 5...John ran 10.40 up there (from Inline) , Angela trying to get her **** together - Harv St. Mary got 560 to the tire on her motor though....We got in 6 runs....
Never can tell what you will see up there, any damn thing....

Everything has all been paid for, and most of it is here already:
engine, tranny, pistons, head studs, cam gear, all machine shop work, clutch
waiting for everything else, but all that should be here before next weekend.
As soon as the break in period is over, I am heading straight to the dyno for mad tuning. The Field VTEC controller should be really helpfull.
On a different note. my original plan was going to be Spoon wheels, but now I am leaning towards something a bit more fancy... Racing Hart SE37K in gun metal. What to you think?

sounds like just another typical honda tuner to me... whatever. Unless, by some rare faze of the moon you are actually building the entire motor up yourself. Then I hand more credit over to you. It's just that i can't stand people that think they are all bad and have no idea what they have into there cars. Like my grandma could do I/H/E to her civic, it's not rocket sience. It just sounded to me like another poor boy who didn't know DOHC from a hole in the wall. MY fault there, if in that, it is true you are building the motor yourself. I love honda's simply for the fact that they have large amounts of possibilities and potiential. I love to swap, build up, do whatever i can to go fast. I have plenty of mechanical ability, so in that i can take my honda's to new levels...
damn kids...

Heh...a straight DOHC swap doesn't get you too far either. You have to spend a ton of money to make them quick, but without turbo, they'll never be fast. In the end, they're still Hondas. They're fun, but they usually don't break records.
Anyway, I can't wait to get my EX head back from the shop. Just got a Revhard turbo manifold too
the turbo is almost complete. The aluminum flywheel should be here Tuesday to keep me occupied for a bit.
***IAC VALVE***
I posted a question about this a while back, and G gave me some help. What I've found is this -
The DX has a 3 wire IAC mounted on the TB. The EX has a 2 wire mounted on the intake manifold. Herein lies my problem of swapping to the EX head. The BBK TB I got does not accept either IAC (although is does have provisions for some kind of IAC, not sure for which year or model though).
The 96+ EX w/auto did come with the same IAC as the DX w/5spd. I looked in the Helms and two of the three wires on the DX IAC are the same as the two on the EX IAC. I believe that leaves an unused orange wire. I guess I'm going to lop off the 3 pin DX connecter, and use connectors to attach the two wires to the EX IAC and hope it doesn't blow up or fry anything. I'm sure it will work, but I'm afraid it will give a code. Errrrrrr.........

Hah! I knew I wasn't the only one to "go there". I ran into this same problem myself about a month ago. Couldn't find any help at all other than to be assured that the DX and EX TB's are exactly the same size, as well as interchangeable. Since the DX IAC valve is attached the TB, that's how I got around the IAC valve problem. Did have to plug a hole though...

Are you working with the OBD2 DX wiring harness and ECU? I tried doing the exact same thing, but it didn't work. I don't have my factory manual in front of me, but I thought the diagram was a bit misleading. If I recall, there was a positive, a negative, and a "mystery" wire. Dunno what it does. BTW, I didn't fry anything when I tried it. ;-) Maybe it will work for you. If you don't mind, lemme know if it works. Thanks.

Yeah bud, did you get sponsored? Are you rich? Then you won't be breaking records like that dude. I'm talking about reasonable amounts of money. You can make a clunker Chevy run faster than that for a lot less money.
*** On the IAC valve
Yes, it gave the two main wires, and it said something about "various sensors" or something like that. Stupid. I could have just re-used the DX throttle body, but I have the BBK, so that's no longer an option (I like this new BIG one anyway!).
I did install the Field SFC tonight, but of course the head is not ready yet
I was thinking about this - using the DX harness (oh yes- I do have ODB2) and using the EX 5 spd ECU. I have the SFC, so I would not need to run an extra wire for the VTEC solenoid. The only other difference I can think of is the knock sensor - the DX doesn't have one, correct??

Gearhead313, why don't you try using that same logic on yourself? You can spend more money on your I4 honda's and go slower than you would in a V8 FBody. It is all about personal preference.
Did you read Larry Widmer's comments on d16 potential? check out http://www.theoldone.com - he thinks they have sim. potential to b16 in race trim....
