Default My Distributor is apparently binding the intake cam...

I have a "brand new" distributer that I installed into my Built 95 B18C1, that was just too long. When its bolted in, it binds the cam against the caps.

We found this out when we tried to start it for the first time, and the timing belt just jumped the cam gear.

Is it just machined wrong or do I not have the correct one? It pluged in fine, and the bolt pattern is perfect.

I've never run into a problem like this before...

Thats what I would check.

Had a friend help me put my head back on once, he bolted it in 180 degree's out of place. Went to tension the belt and many teeth it jumped.

it can be done if forced on..some need less force then others i guess its all in the machining process..but ive seen people do it so many times..

Yup...that was exactly my problem...

However, according to my helms the little line on the distributer key is supposed to be aligned with the line on the distributer case. However, it is on the opposite side when it fits?

Am I just reading the helms wrong?

just to be sure you can open the cap and make sure the rotor is in the vicinity of the #1 terminal, with your #1 piston at TDC of course.

Well I guess I can't trust the book for everything...

I now have 2 bent intake valves on #4...

compression (1-4) 130, 130, 125, 0

The heads now at the machine shop. I hate how little mistakes like this can end up being very costly, and time consuming. stupid cars...

dont call the car stupid because YOU put the distributor in backwards.. there is an obvious difference to the distributor sliding right in and you having to force it into place.. I'd call the operator/mechanic stupid on this one...
