Default my car keeps hesitating

right guys, this has me beat, i have recently fitted a b16a into my ej2 and it has a intermittent annoying problem.
The car starts, idles fine, pulling away it is fine too, temperature rises fine too but as soon as i gun the accelerator, the rev counter bounces forwards and backwords and at the same time the engine hesitates to pull away, some times judders, feels like its missing and ready to cut out then all f a sudden it revs normal and vtec comes in really strong. The hesitation happens between 2000-4500, giving the rev counter aint going bat s**t, also the speedo has a tendancy to register the speed as normal but then drops to 0 then goes up and then back to 0. i have checked my grounds (rocker cover/ gearbox/ thermostat) i have swapped over the coil in the dizzy to no avail. can anyone help me out before i cut the car in half.
i have tested the tps and it reads 0.94v closed and 5.74 wot. stuart

Check your spark leads. then your ICM in the distributor below to the right of the coil.
Really sounds like ignition system
Possibly fuel filter?

yea that is the ICM. Do you have any engine management lights or vacuum leaks.
I take it this has being happening since you first put the engine in.

yeah mate, its strange if i let off the throttle the rev counter goes to its proper position, once i put throttle on it goes all over the place. No cel's at all and as for vacuum leaks i havent really checked but all the pipes are in their correct places and i also changed the pcv today too which hasnt made any difference. stuart

**** man if you could get it on a dyno you could see if its leaning out. I would make identifying the problem much easier.
If it was me i would start with all ignition parts then fueling then compression i.e tappet clearence, valve timing.

Could be a faulty 02 sensor or put on adjustable fuel pressure regulator and run it a tad richer and see if that might fix it.
