Default My car died on me.

Heres the story- driving along about 45 mph....the car is running great as usual. All of the sudden the car loses power and then it starts to studder...the engine seems to bog down and then quits....i roll into this parking lot and then i try to crank it over again....it runs really shitty and sounds like its missing alot and shakes and jerks alot....then it finally dies for good....it wont kick over at all.

I left the car for the night and came back today.

I checked everything out...no loose wires, checked the rotor and cap and everything in there. I made sure all the connections are good and i even pulled the carpet up to check the ecu...no codes.

When i crank it over sometimes it seems as if it wants to start...I smell fuel being burnt when the car is being cranked over....it jsut wont start. Can anyone help me? I rely on this car for daily transportation.... OH yeah..its a 1990 crx si with a jdm b16a swap. Ironically, its for sale right now...lol. Must not want to leave me yet.... can any one of you experts help me out? Im getting it towed to my house right now. I can tear it apart in there. Thanks.

Either the internal coil or the igniter(ignition control module).

what are factors that contribute to icms or coils going bad? I seem to have constant probs with them with my 95 gsr motor

Well my dad said the same thing about it....he suggested the coil. I also thought the same thing because ive had problems with the rotor coming loose, the ignitor wires coming loose and what not...all my problems thus far have been distributor related...ive had nothing but problems with that system.

Katman(honda guru) told me that these engines often have problems with that. The igntion seems to be a big part of these cars unreliability.

i have also heard that you can use a sohc coil from a d16a6? is that correct or am im being hopefully disillusioned? I happen to have a friend who would give me one free of charge. Please help... i gotta have this car running again soon. ..... .....

Would upgrading to an external coil/ignition such as a MSD Digital 6 ignition w/ external coil be better?

Im sure that upgrading would make for a bit better reliability. Though im sure that upgrading to an aftermarket ignition would only really be necessary for more modified engines....

It was just really weird that my car was running great then all of the sudden it quits....out of no where. Though everyone seems to be having problems with their cars because its sooo damn cold here....over two weeks straight below freezing. Its 2 degrees here right now.....-10 windchill. damn michigan.

Yea, I figure I would not need to upgrade to an aftermarket ignition/coil since my motor is pretty stock. I just posted about my problem in the type-r forum...see what those guys think.

Well i got it fixed....it chewed through another rotor and the coil was shot....i had another basically brand new rotor laying around and i swapped a coil from my old d16a6....worked like a charm. I guess that old sohc proved to be a help after all...rather than something that just takes up room in my garage
