was making a squealing noise and sounds like it's coming from the harmonic balancer. I installed a new one and belts, same sound. Only happens at idle. Pulley looks like its wobbling. Any ideas?

 

Is the keyway and key on the crank ok? Fitting tightly?

 

Key felt alright. One thing I want sure about is when both pulleys are on shaft there is play, kind of like teeth are worn out.

 

pull the harmonic pulley and inspect it, could be about to come apart

on any belt, on the longest side of the belt, in the middle of that side, with your thumb and index finger, twist the belt, it should only twist 90 degrees or so, if it twists more than that then it's too loose

you can always spray wd40 or anything really gently onto a belt and if the noise changes you atleast found the circuit with the issue

 

Tried this seems to be a little tight. The old alternator belt had a chunk missing from it, might be alternator pulley? Will test more tomorrow and post it

 

take off the belts and turn each pulley with your hand, see if one has roughness, more likely the alt bearing

 

Just take the alternator belt off and start the car. No noise, you know it's that.

 

The sound the system is making is that of diode overload in the alternator. This sound is common to a lot of alternators with bad diodes or brushes. If you do not have a stethoscope, remove the drive belts one at a time when the sound is being produced. From experience, the two main causes are alternator diode failure, and pulley bearing failure. Each case tends to be unique in some way (something usually contributes to the failure).

just update the sound was pcv valve. It would come and go and was very hard to tell where it was coming from. Deleted it with catch can and now sound it gone.
