Default muffler volume vs. tip length - question

Is it true that that on a given muffler on the same vehicle, a muffler with a shorter tip will be louder than the same muffler with a longer tip? ie: does volume decrease with longer tip length?

Generally, no. Tips can act as resonators.

Take redneck trucks for example. I do exhaust work at my shop sometimes and if you run straight pipes with no tip, vs straight pipes with an 18" long 4 1/2" tip, the one with tips will DESTROY the other. And also probably destroy your hearing while your at it. It's kinda crazy how it works.

My opinion (others may disagree):
Typically speaking, Honda's don't flow enough air to really be able to tell the difference in noise from having a 4" long tip, or not having one at all. It may change the tone, but that's about it.

Get a muffler with a silencer if you're worried about noise.

I definitely want to get a silencer, but not sure if it will be to restrictive of exhaust flow, with my turbo and all.
