Default AT to MT swap ECU question

Currently I have a '99 Civic hatch DX Auto. I would like to do a Manual swap and had some questions about what I should do for the ECU. I have a spare P2E ECU from a '98 hatch DX Manual. Would it be best to use that ECU, jump-wire the original ECU, or is there a way to combine(chip the original)? I ask because (1) I don't want to fail inspection due to wrong VIN on ECU and (2) I don't want to fail for CEL.

Is there a way to combine components so that I can keep my factory VIN ECU and run a 5spd without CEL?

Thanks,

Andrew

well the other ecu is obd2a and ur car is obd2b so it won't plug in, you'll need a jumper harness. you'll also have to rewire your iacv to work with that ecu since yours is a 3wire and the manual ecu is a 2wire. best bet is to get a manual ecu from the year car you need and i'd say just swap the shell of the ecu so that it still retains the sticker. runnning the auto ecu will give u a check engine light. so... run 5spd ecu from same year/trim car, swap shell of ecu, rewire iacv, good luck

Correct

Nope. D16Y8s found in EXs work that way, but D16Y7s all have a 3 wire IACV, no rewiring needed.

You shouldn't need to swap the shell. Just make sure you run a '99 - '00 manual P2E ECU.

True, but he said he wanted to keep the matching vin for the car that way if they run the vin on the ecu, they won't notice it's not the right one.

Would you mind going into further detail of swapping the shell? What I am MOST interested in is keeping the VIN.

Thanks,

Andrew

Its pretty simple take the covers off and swap the boards. Theres no VIN on the shell or any other part of the ECU though, just a part number.
