MT Shift Rod and Oil Seal
Hello,
I have a 1998 Honda Civic and oil is leaking from where the shift rod enters the transmission. The oil seal is leaking (part 91212-PL3-005) Ref. 21. do I have to take apart the whole transmission to replace this seal?

Hello everyone, I think I found the answer from a previous post. Here it is:
Answers:
1. It's not exactly common, but I've heard of it happening to a few other people before (including myself).
2. Replace it by removing the shift arm through what is lovingly referred to as the "bitch pin". (You'll understand when you have to take it out...a punch & hammer usually work best). Once you get the shift arm off, just take a flat bladed screwdriver & lever behind it until it pops out. Be sure not to scratch the metal shift shaft that comes out of the tranny. While the seal is off, look at the metal shift shaft and see if it has any corrosion on it, that's what usually causes the seal to go bad is all the corrosion dragging past the seal over & over. If it is all corroded, get some steel wool or the like & clean as much off as you can. After it's all clean, slide the new seal over the shift shaft and tap it into the tranny case using a suitable sized socket & hammer.
3. Not sure of the part number if it's for a B16, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they SHOULD be the same for all B-series trannies, so go to the dealer & get one for a B16 Del Sol, it should work perfectly. It's around #2 on this picture:

Good luck,
