mods to keep engine bay cooler?
i am just looking for some inexpensive mods to keep my engine bay cooler. it seems that after putting on my headers things are little bit hotter under there, any suggestions?
alright....but rumor has it that by wraping my headers it will lower the temp of my engine bay but will also trap all the heat the headers are radiating...making them one hell of a lot hotter, and weaker.

Header wrap is the way to go. Trapping the heat in the header is a good thing. It makes the exhaust gas move faster which improves scavenging. On a n/a motor, you don't have to worry about the header cracking. It's only a problem on turbo headers that cracking can occur. I raced for a year on a wrapped POS Hedman Header and it never gave me any problems. It really keeps the temps down.

But header wrap that is installed correctly shouldn't cause you any problems. Read the instructions clearly.
Basically, do not overlap more then the instructions say. If you can't cover an area because it would cause to much overlap in the wrapping, then just leave that area exposed.
I am not a found believer in header wrap... I have seen extended use and the results of the thermal wrap... It's not pretty, but it does work...
As Owen has already stated... If you wish to keep *some* heat within the header than the best way is to have the header coated with Jet Hot or similar coating...
People fail to understand that the metal no matter what it is... Will expand and contract with normal usuage... Applying header wrap or any similar material that is bound to the unit will inhibit the normal expansion and contractions of the metal...
Upon wet driving conditions... Yes my dear friends it does rain & snow around the globe...
The wet material will cause uneven hot and cold spots in the unit... Poorly designed and manufactured headers that have less than adequate welds will start to corrode and deteriate faster than if it was allowed to breath and dry out in it's normal cycle...
Q: Does header wrap work?
A: Yes, but for applications where it was designed to be used specificly for short duration in cycle life.
Q: What are the con's of using header wrap?
A: Cracking, corrosion, rapid catalytic failure.
Q: How do I know if my header will last with this wrap?
A: It won't... Period
