Default missing resistor box = no spark??

i bought a ls motor and it seemed to have had a resistor box spliced in.

i had the wires soldered. now, would missing the resistor box keep my engine from starting?? there's no spark either.

Are you sure there's no spark? Fix that first. Depending on what's wrong with spark, that might fix the fuel problem.

Check for actual spark by pulling a plug & watching it?

Then troubleshoot the triggering system.

Sensors in the distributor (CYP, CKP, & TDC) tell the ECU when to fire the spark & injectors. If those are bad (or bad wiring) then the ECU won't know the engine's turning.

Then the ECU sends a signal to the ICM (ignitor). The ECU can tell if that circuit isn't properly connected, then it won't run the fuel pump. But in that case you'd get a CEL for 'ignition trigger signal'.

BTW, what year? Some of this stuff is a little different for some years.

it's a 97/98 LS block and head with a obd1 intake manifold, injectors, distributor (i believe), and wiring.

i'm thinking there's something wrong with the coil or the ignition module.

You should get spark, but not fuel. The resistor box goes in between power and injectors. Therefore, your injectors aren't getting any power without it.

Check your ground wires. I've been owned by them before.

Or you could have burned them by overpowering them. The resistor box is to lower voltage, I believe.

i swapped in a new distributor and put in a resistor box. all it does is still crank and not turn over. i think im just going to put in a new engine harness.

just want to clarify if a 92-95 civic dx enigine harness would work. (i have a 94 auto and a 92 manual harness laying around somewhere)

if you are running low impedience injector without a resistor box it will not keep the car from starting but with burn out your ecu's injector driver.

could be an ignitor failure. this would cause no spark or fuel.

right on

car should start even w/o the resistor box but will fry ECU in the long run, get one ASAP

i changed the wiring harness and the car started right up. i also had a CEL 16 [fuel injectors], but they all read 11.9 to 12.0 ohms.
i believe the absence of the resistor box is what kept my car from starting.

thanks for all the input
