Default Mini Me question

ok so im sure this has been asked before i have been looking around and just want to be a 100% i am understanding right, i just put together a mini me using a z6 head and b7 block, car runs but like crap, if i retard the timing all the way it runs better but has no power at all, so i was reading that the timing is always off a half tooth when using the z6 cam gear, so if i buy a adjustable cam gear i can fix this problem correct? Just wanna be 100% before i drop a 100 bucks on a cam gear, also what brand u recomend, ive seen skunk 2 and aem.

Are you also using the z6 ecu, intake manifold injectors and throttle body? Yes, an adjustable cam gear will help with cam timing. Though, a Loy of people just change the timing belt to a z6 as well. Mini me swaps usually run better on advanced timing.

im using everything from the z6 upper end and z6 timing belt, i pulled the timing apart today to find out my lower end was a almost 2 teeth off so i set everything to tdc and the car runs pretty good now just idles a little weird.
