There are some good machine supply stores in LA. Call me and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

Snap on is great! But so darn expensive.snap-on truck.....
I like Starrett and Mitutoyo as brands for precision measuring devices. I actually like my Mitutoyo's better. I got a good deal on a closeout thru Enco when they were closing here on the Mitutoyo's .
I buy my tooling from Production Tool and Supply. http://www.pts-tools.com . decent prices, its just down the street from work.....well that does not help you much
....and good stock.Given good name brands I would buy on price. Good old internet search and buy.

edit.........I wish I could spell.........Mitutoyo right

I've got the Craftsman ones, but I'm kinda mad that they don't have the vernier scale.

I like Starrett also but i use Mitutoyo at work. Try www.northerntool.com
Check out http://www.use-enco.com and http://www.msc-direct.com I buy most of my tools mail order from either of them. Enco tends to be a bit cheaper than MSC, but look for sales at either of them. MSC might have a branch near you, in which case you can just go in and either buy (assuming in stock) or order stuff there as well. For brands, I like starrett and mitutoyo as well, but usually prefer starrett.

I love those ones with the digital read out. You push a button and goes from metric to inches
Thanks guys, Im just looking for something thas inexpensive but those digital models are lookin good! Rocket, I'll definately give yu a call and see if I can window shop for some in the LA area.
For inexpensive, I actually bought a set of the really really cheap $29.95 mics from Enco to use when I don't want to risk damaging a good mic, and I checked them with some gauge blocks at a bunch of different measurements, and the cheap ones ended up being dead on. They're definitely not real great quality, but for the price, I was impressed.
