Melted IAT sensor
Got a CEL code 10, pulled out the IAT sensor to replace it and the tip was melted. What could have caused this? Is timing off and causing heat to escape into the IM. Its a 97 gsr w/ S2 pro-series IM so IAT sensor mounts on 2nd cylinder runner a lot closer to the head than a stock IM.
a very common source of this problem is having the EVAP purge and IAT plugs switched.
other than that there is very little that "should" be in that area that will ever be that hot.

do you happen to know the colors of the wires that should be going to each sensor? Also, do you mean switching the IAT and the IAC plugs, I thought the EVAP Purge control solenoid runs off of vacuum not current?

the 96-97 tegs are the two years I don't have manuals for.
the 98-01 uses the following colors
IAT - red/yellow - green/black
EVAP - black/white - blue
IACV - yellow/black - black/blue
94-95 teg uses
IAT - red/yellow - green/blue
EVAP - yellow/black - red
IACV - yellow/black - black/blue
the EVAP purge solinoid routes fuel vapors traped in the charcoal canister to the intake manifold, but the solinoid is controlled by the ECU. the plugs for that and the IAT are the same and the wiring is about the same length.
