Default Measuring cams camshafts

So i bought a car from someone who wasn't too mechanically inclined but loved modding his prelude, and so he never was 100% sure what went into his car. He told me the cams were Crower cams, but there are no physical markings on the cam.

Anyways how do you measure the specs of a cam and what tools are required? I got a digital caliper thinking I could get the height of the lobes vs. the base, but the specs are WAY off compared to what i should be looking at for any cams. (I got .324" lift on the largest lobe)

You need a dial indicator and a magnetic base
