Maximum Air Tool Pressure??
Last week I picked up a 6 HP, 30 gallan, 150 PSI compressor at Sears. I also bought a IR Thunder Lightning 1/2" Impact gun which can put out 625 ft lbs of force * Torque* in reverse, along with a 3/8 Thundder Lightning rachet rated for 60 ft lbs.
On the IR site the maker and all other makers I have ever read state maximum PSI to be set at 90 PSI???
All the mechanics and dealers I have ever spoken with set their compressor for the maximum PSI available to them???
Why do they do that if it will damage the air tool? I can see if you were using a air tool for prolonged durations like a sander, or paint gun, that it would damage the tool.
But for sudden brief burst of energy is it OK to set my compressor to 150 PSI for both tools, just for short burst usuage??? Let a girl know .
Lots of love

I think the 90psi rating is the standard used to compare air consumption. We have our air set at 150psi at work. The last place I worked at it was 180psi. If you match the tool to the job you shouldn't have any problems. (don't be removing axle nuts with a 3/8" impact and such)
