master cylinder & proportioning valve
Can anyone tell me if I need to switch the master cylinder and proportioning valve? I'm switching the rear drums to disc brakes and want to know if I need to switch the master cylinder & proportioning valve. I've gotten both answers and was wondering if there was someone who knows for sure. I'm thinking that you do because don't they have a different master cylinder and valve for the disc than the ones for the drums?
Also, can anyone tell me where the valve is on the 92 Accord? I think i know, but want to be sure.

Re: master cylinder & proportioning valve (jdm92accord)
i wouldnt bother changing out the master cylinder yours will work fine, as for the prop valve, its really up to you. If you cnage it out youll get more even braking front to rear. the prop valve is located on the firewall, just follow the lines from the master cylinder downward, youll run into it

If you don't change the master cylinder, your brake pedal travel will increase significantly... maybe double. You don't HAVE to do it, but it's recommended.
If you're going to change the MC, you might as well change the proportioning valve, which maintains proper brake balance between the front and rear.

I did this swap on my 97 Civic Hatch and take it from me, do your own research. Everyone told me I had to swap M/C and porportioning valves and I didn't. I went to honda got the part numbers of a civic with rear disk and without and the porp valves were the SAME! The guy told me that hondas (at least civics) don't have front to rear porp valves, they just spit the F/R R/L from the F/L R/R for safety reasons. So do yourself a favor and just ask the Honda parts dept. to print you up the part numbers of a Accord model with and without rear disks (same gen) and go by that.
