My manual steering rack has a good bit of play in it (probably 30-40 degrees of arc) before the wheels are actually turned. Is there any way of eliminating this play or is there something wrong with the box itself? I am in no way a n00b other than that I am unfamiliar with Honda manual steering systems.

*This is NOT a power-steering rack with the pump disconnected. This IS a true manual CRX rack.*

Check the tie rods, also there's a bushing internal to the rack that wears out, try replacing that. Otherwise just get a new rack! Probably a lot easier than diagnosing.

 

Thanks for the response. I'll take a look under her today for any kind of adjustments I can make.

 

Problem solved:

The nuts weren't tightened all the way at the balljoints where the tie rods connect.
