Default valve problems on a d16y8

ok...a few days back i had my valves readjusted by a friend, which he had done incorrectly and i had it redone by another friend to d16z6 measurements because he had one and he guessed a d16y8 would be the same...obviously it is not because my car started lagging...my idle would drop to like 500 and sometimes 0...the car would also shake or rumble at 500...

so now i have my valves redone for the 3rd time by myself...i used the right measurements...but i'm not sure if i did it tight enough? i just stuck the feeler gauge between the adjustment screw and the valve retainer and screwed until it was tight so could barely pull out the feeler gauge out...then just redid the lock nut...could this be too tight? should i have done it so that i could stick the feeler gauge in and out?

well...my car starts but it makes a lot of noise...i'm thinking that my valves are still off...i'm just hoping that my valves aren't bent...is there a way i can really tell if a valve is bent? when i step on the gas and let off, the car makes like a swirly noise while the rpms drop...

i also broke off two bolts holding my valve cover down AHHHH! so the thread pieces are just down there...should i get this fixed? things aren't looking too good for me right now...can someone help me please?

you will want to get the bolts you broke replaced, obviously. the feeler gauge should have some resistance, but not where it is pinchingit so much that it bends or warps the gauge....you could have gotten them tight. check the t-belt, sounds like it might be stretching...

maybe i should redo my valves then? would anything go wrong if it's too tight? would i bend a valve?

if it's too tight, the valves won't close all the way, and you will have idle problems, loss in power. you won't bend a valve if it's too tight. if your vavletrain is not that noisy i wouldn't worry about it.

ooopps...i posted on eli's name...lol!!!

but anyways...i'll redo my valves sometime next week then...i don't have a garage to use to redo it...and it's raining here in seattle...i can feel a light loss of power...and still hear a little noise...but it runs fine...so i'll just leave it for now and hope for the best...i'll probably do a compression test next week as well...thanks for the help guys...
