Default Major downsides of Not running a rubber dampener?

Like the title says, I was thinking of using just a CTR pulley w/ the PS and AC delete. Are there any major negatives to doing this?

Yes, you can destroy your engine.

Do a search. There is an overwhelming amount of information on this.

Use a pulley that serves as a damper. A Fluidampr or ATI unit will work, but unless you're building a dedicated track car, your stock pulley is fine.

The only reason im looking at other pulleys is because i no longer run ac or ps.

That's fine. Your stock pulley will still work. Spend your money elsewhere.

like posted above, there is substantial evidence. i shattered an oil pump gear at 130mph, top of 4th gear. there are a few besides ATI and fluidampr to get a pulley though.

If they really bother you then machine the a/c and p/s pulleys off. That's what I did.

I was thinking about doing that. Is this a common thing to be done? And downsides to doing this? Also what type of machine could be used to do this?

The only "evidence" I've ever come across are a few photos and quite a bit of hearsay.

ok, so here's some more hearsay. i had a ctr pulley on my drag car, brand new oem oil pump, and the internal gears shattered on its 2nd pass down the track. Bought a new oil pump, checked bearings etc. bought an ATI damper and had 0 problems motor made numerous more passes, and is now in a street car.

There are a few threads on this forum and others that have members' experiences with undamped pulleys. Some of them have had no issues, but there is still a substantial number of people who have shattered oil pump gears and scorn bearings.

Some engines need a damper more than others. For example, my OEM d15 crank pulley is not a damper, but an OEM d16 pulley is. It depends on the specifics of the engine in question.

Whatever the case, wouldn't physics alone be sufficient enough to dissuade you from risking it? Torsional vibration is not mythical. Also, just to clarify, I am assuming this will be a daily driver. I can see how an undamped, underdrive pulley would be worthwhile for a dedicated track car that will be rebuilt regularly.

king motorsports does shave pulleys too, im guessing its for this very reason, ive never looked that close at one of their motors to see what pulleys they are running

The major reason i was looking to cut it rather than but a new one is just cost vs a Fluidampr. Maybe ill just play it safe and run an OEM one. But thank you all for the input, it helped me make my decision.
