main relay question
i was driving my b16 crx from work and right as i hit vtec in second gear it felt like it just misfired or lost compresion then it would do it everytime i gave it alot of gas. i thought great a head gasket but didnt over heat no smoke nothing changed in the idle or anything. so i got home checked \around the head and no leaks that i could see. my main relay that i replaced didnt sound like it turned my fuel pump on but would start the car after a few cranks. i replaced it and took it around for a few minutes getting on it and it felt great and didnt do it again. my question is could it make it misfire like that under load if the relay was bad? any info would help thanks
Good question. Idk but it could if the relay starts going bad. It would cut the power to the fuel pump for a few seconds and then work fine again. But like I said idk just my thoughts...
thats what i was thinking like if u hit your fuel pump when its going bad it will turn on maybe thats the same way with this. i really wont know till tomorrow morning when i drive it to work hope thats all it was. thanks for the post
The PGM-FI Main Relay is actually two (2) relays, the fuel pump relay, [supplies power to the fuel pump and is controled by the ECU/ECM] the other relay is the injector relay, [supplies power to the injectors the ECU/ECM and some engine valve/solenoids].
Any problem, [even for a split sec.] with the injector relay would result in a misfire, [no power to injectors] 94
