Default Made my own CAI...

I got this idea (for construction) from www.teamdelsol.com . I had a Jackson Racing CAI (short ram), but wanted a true CAI to draw air from outside the engine compartment. Since AEM doesn't make a CAI for cars w/a JRSC, I had to make my own. It's much cheaper, too. If anyone's interested in construction details, I would be happy to share them.

Thanks. I tried to post the photos directly, but couldn't make it work.

Thanks. I also wish that I would have gotten the stainless steel tubing. The one I bought is aluminized, so that should help w/ rust. Plus, it's kind of dry here in Arizona.
After these photos were taken, I realized that the tube was getting very hot from the radiant engine heat, and so I wrapped it with ThermoTec metallic insulating tape. It doesn't look as nice, but it's much, much cooler.

Nice work!

Just wanted to chime in with some info I know. It does make sense to route the intake to grab colder air from the outside of the engine bay for colder intake temps. But, AEM probably doesn't make a CAI for jackson equipped cars for a good reason. The longer CAI's for an NA car, while being able to pull colder air, are able to increase the velocity of the incoming air due to the longer length. That's why CAI's will typically give more power in an NA car, higher air intake velocities. For FI cars, you don't want the air to increase its velocity too much because the JRSC is pulling it in. Too much velocity going into the intake causes turbulence when it hits the compressor and can have negative affects. Not sure how much it affects it but I think that is why AEM doesn't make one, because short ram is actually better for JRSC. Although Comptech does make there Icebox for JRSC cars, I don't know if the design is different. So I could be wrong, but just thought I'd let you know.

Good job anyway though!!

That's some food for thought.
I called AEM and asked them directly why they didn't make a CAI for cars w/JRSC, and they said there simply wasn't enough interest. (!)
I bet if the made one, they would sell the hell out of 'em, but what do I know?

Heh, doesnt the JRSC keep the throttle body in the stock location...so you'd be able to use any CAI for that car. I could be wrong, but props on the cold air job anyways.

Throttle body does move w/a JRSC. I had forgotten this and ordered the AEM CAI only to discover it didn't fit. In retrospect, maybe I could have modified it to work...
