LS/VTEC. . . FUEL CUTS
This question is for my friend. He has an ls/vtec in his obd1 civic dx. He's been having problems with fuel cuts coming out of nowhere. Especially when its cold out and when hes in 1st and 2nd. He said it also happens when his clutch is half way engaged. It's the kind of fuel cut you'd experience as if you hit the rev limiter. He's using a p28 ecu. He had a pr3, but it seems like chaning the ecu didn't help at all.
I'm sorry I don't know why I wrote pr3. He had some sort of faulty ecu in there. I believe it was a pw0. It was from an obd1 b16. Now he has the p28, I think thats from a sohc ex. The ecu isnt chipped yet. He was having the fuel cut problems before the ecu was changed though. Can't say that it isnt the ecu, because the old one was messed up. Should the p28 be chipped to provide the right fuel map for a motor making in the 200 whp range?
It doesnt cut at the rev limiter. It cuts randomly, the motor is freshly built so it doesnt even rev high enough to hit the limiter yet. I was reading on the ecu tuning section of jdmhondaparts.com that the p28 doesnt work right with a gsr intake manifold. I'll have to let my friend know that, and he'll have to decide whether to get a skunk2 IM or an ecu retune. Thanks for the help.
i have a simular problem with my lsvtec i just got it running and it seems like when ever i push the gas under 3000 rpm it bogs out like it jerks really hard then it goes i dont know whats going on with it
