LS/VTEC ECU QUESTION
Im in the process of building an LS/VTEC. Before I get into the question, here is the parts Im working with:
B16A head (early model 89-91)
P28 ECU (Yes it will have to be programed to DOHC spec)
95 LS Teg
But my question is:
Will the ECU run the head. When I get to reading about OBD1 and non OBD it throws me off. Can the head run off an OBD 1 program (see year of head).
Serious question. Please don't answer if your vague on the subject (ie. don't answer if you don't know what your talking about) Thanks
So far:
DPR valve springs
Type R porcilin coated and blue printed valves (3 angle)-DPR
Ferera SS oversized exhaust valves (3 angle & blue printed as well)
Head ported and polished- Dans Perfomance
Shot Peened Retainers
Port matched intake manifold & bored to 64MM
CTR cams
In the works:
Low compression forged Pistons 9:5:1(turbo)
Eagle Rods
Block Girdle
Full rebuild of bottom end
Turbo (XS engineering)
Sounds fun to me!!!
The head will work fine, but you will need a few things.
Obd-1 cars have different injectors, distributors, and oxygen sensors(4-wire) than obd cars. The head will work fine, but you will need OBD-1 injectors to go with it. You can use you stock LS injectors, they will fit and work fine. Also, the b16a is not gonna have a map sensor built into the throttle body like your LS motor does. Get an external map sensor from any 88-91 civic/crx/teg, and just plug it up. If you have specific questions, just ask. good luck w/ your setup

simple solution. use your b16a head, get an itr manifold and swap over all of your sensors from the ls manifold onto the itr one. very easy. ecu will run the head just fine as long as you wire up the vtec pressure switch to the ecu.
Since I've already had machine work done to the B16 Manifold, I should probably stick with it. Also The ITR manifold adds another $200 to the mix. The hondata idea sounds pretty good. Can you tell me if the $100 includes programing the fuel curve, rev limit, vtec activation and timing? One more question(yeah Im full of them) my LS TB will work for the setup right?
Thanks guys

When I emailed Doug about those questions, the answer was yes. Mind you, this was over three months ago when he first introduced this, so I would email Hondata again to check pricing.
If I bore out the LS TB-whats the difference b/w it and the ITR? Are there any comparative advantage of using the ITR TB?
Does anyone know the flow rates for the ITR injectors? Thanks.
