Icon6 ls motor compression test results

i have a b18b1, the compression test results came out to be:

#1 = 145psi #2 = 140psi #3 = 140psi #4 = 145psi

i did the test by pulling one spark plug at a time. could that have been the the reason for the low numbers..?

thanx in advanced...

how many miles on motor? many things affect compression...valve timing, wear on rings and valves, clogged air filter. in your case it just sounds like an aged motor but it seems healthy because of the consistency across the board.

i dont know the mile on the motor i bot it for some guy for 450 the full swap.

i was thinking bout doing the rings on it but then again a wanna do a complete build but i dont have the money for that right now

how long will that motor last like that i wanna go and get som pistons and rods balance the cran and micro polished for the bottom loking for 11:1 or 12:1 compression and some spray with b16 head

Your numbers aren't too bad for a Stock ls "im assuming" But when doing a compression test you look for consistency with each cylinder. No more then 10% apart from one another. If it makes you feel better then do a leak down test which is more accurate in determining if something went bad.

A leakdown test will show you where the compression is being lost. If compression is lost through the head or headgasket, there are more issues than simple blow-by past the rings.

your compression is close to hell considering that its supposed to have 199 psi per cylinder and if i recall you cant drop more than 30 or sumon psi because that then means you got bad compression rings,my personal advice to get the compression you want is going type r pistions shotpeen the rods and let the b16 head do the work..buy the way did you do it when the car is at operating temperature/that makes a big difference whether the car is cold or hot and if the cylinders are lubed up

The heck are you talking about? No motor has a specific compression number that anyone should be looking for. Do some research before you make statements. Like i said again looking for consistant numbers within each cylinder is what anyone should be looking for.

Its more of what range it should be, not exactly what number to expect.

Your suppose to do it when the motor is at normal operating temp.

its still a spec. 199 psi nominal. i don't go by specs for things like that, but i'm just saying there is an actual spec for it.

About your fuel question, you should ask in the all motor forum.

Did you do a wet compression test?

I would recommend it. But I wouldn't be too concerned that the numbers are low, they are within an acceptable range which is what you are looking for. Are you trying to diagnose a problem with the car or did you just do a compression test to see what you would get?

I just bought that motor and i wanted to see how the compression was before i started modding and stuff

i did the compression check angain witht he motor warm and wat a difference

i got : 180 175 175 180 and without the pedal fully depressed wich i was eating shhh and for got to do but just by those numbers id say that it good

with it a wot it would go up higher so id say im up in the 190's
