Default LS Head Gasket Help

Hey guys,

Im boring my sleeved 1995 B18b1 block out to 84mm and using the OEM LS pr4 head. What head gasket will work with this?

I was planning on just using an OEM b20 hg, but then I realized that the pr4 head has an additional cooling jacket by the #4 cylinder that the p75 does not have. Below it a picture.

Any idea? Has anyone had experience with this before?

What would be better? Have GE modify an OEM gasket or just getting an 84mm cometic?

Ive ran a few cometic gaskets before without any issues, but have heard a few people complain about them.

I just want to make sure I get the best gasket on there I can. The goal for this setup is around 550whp.

Pr4 left, P75 Right

B20 84mm HG. No port openings.

The OEM gasket will be fine.

Changed the pictures for clarity.

The p75 (b20/OBD-2 B18b1) on the right does not have a hole there, those are just marks from where the OEM gasket had a hole.

The Pr4 on the left does have the hole. No the problem is that the P8r (84mm B20 gasket) does not have any holes in it for the extra port on the pr4 head. Im not sure if that going to work or not. I feel like its a bad idea to block off.

Here is a b20 gasket for reference.

Do you have experience with this, or you just think it will be fine?

I just see problems arising when there is pressure and fluid on the head side of the gasket with nowhere to go. It just seems to me that Honda left the ports open on the pr4 gasket for a reason.

Has anyone done this before? Or know what that port does or leads to?

Well I called GE and they are going to go ahead and open up a PR$ gasket for me.

Hows the quality on the GE OEM gaskets bored out? Anyone have problems with them? Ive heard they are pretty stought, I just want to hear some first hand reviews.

yes i had a B18A/B head on my B20 block with a OEM B20 gasket. it ran perfectly fine for years with no issues.

a GE modified gasket is a good choice also. they use OEM honda gaskets to your bore size.

I think im just going with the GE gasket.

Was yours a pr4 or p75 head though? The p75 will work perfectly fine since as we both know it was the factory head on the b20. However the pr4 is what is in question. As you can see in the picture above it has that extra cooling port that has to go somewhere, but the b20 gasket doesnt have a passage to let it.

The b18a/b heads are identical in almost everyway except for that port. Any idea what it does on the pr4?

I use cometic. Have always used them and will always use them. If you're going boost. I recommend you use Cometic. Just my opinion. They sell them in all bores and thickness.
