Default ls head on b20 block efficient?

hey i was thinking about building a b20 but i love the torqueness of the ls so is it practical to build a b20 bottom end with a ls head or is that a no no? i like my ls and am not worried about vtec right now, i wanna do somethin different then most of the others around here. just wondering if its worth doing or should i just get a blank ls bottom end and build that.. thanks for your help

its the same head. though the ls has better cams.
and the b20 has more stock torque than teh ls anyway.

The B20 and ls are different heads. The ls has a smaller combustion chamber so when you install it on a b20 yopu will have higher compression.

The b20 has more tq than the LS, and if I were you I would put a B16 head on there insted of the LS or B20 head. I know you didn't say anything about Vtec but just food for thought

thanks for the advice,.. so putting a ls head on the b20 wouldnt be good for turbo because it would raise the compression? even if i built the bottom end with turbo pistons? thats basically what im after is a good starting point for a turbo motor. with no v-tec. kinda want somethin different then every other person around here... seems like everyone and there brother has a b-16, not saying its a bad motor at all, i just wanna do somethin a lil different.like what would be the best bottom end and ive been told b20s were strong but wasnt sure. or should i just stick with my ls and build that? what do you guys think would be a better route ... thanks alot for your help

The important thing to remember here is that the B20 and the B18B are practically one and the same motor! The only REAL difference is the bore diameter: 81mm for the LS and 84mm for the B20. So think of the B20 as an LS motor that is just better. Also, you could take a B18B and resleeve it to 84mm. And you would basically have the same thing as a B20. This would cost more than buying a whole B20. But it would give you a stronger motor. And you would have the B18B block stamp (important where you have to deal with a visual smog inspection). Just keep in mind that if your LS is a B18A (1990-1993), then your head is actually inferior. The B20 head is actually the B18B head, which is better than the B18A head. And I would not recommend using the older head on a larger motor. On the other hand, the B18A block is identical to the B18B block.

i wouldnt recommend it, since the b20 is just as torqy as the ls plus some. Its got a much higher displacement and its a wase of time to put an ls head on it. I would just grab a b16 head and shave it and tap it and then throw it on the b20 bottom end and build a b20/vtec. You would run much better.
