Default ls crank question.....

i bought a spare b18a motor, and finally got around to tearing it down. well i found something that kinda scared me. when i went to remove the crank pulley bolt, it broke loose right away without even torquing on it. mind you i was told this motor was running strong, but using a little oil. it has like 145k on it i was told. so when i removed the bolt i see there is no key in it. so this leads me to my main question. i know the pulley has splines inside of it. is the crank splined as well? are they supposed to mesh, or is the key the only thing that keeps the pulley in place? my crank has marks, but is totally smooth where the pulley goes on. i haven't pulled it completely out yet, but i'm thinking i got hosed. i've searched the threads that have pics of ls cranks, but it's really hard to tell.
thoughts?

There is a slot in the crank for the key.More than likely the key sheared in half from the loose pulley spinning. If you look close you will see half of the key in the crank.

yeah, i looked for this, there is nothing in the key way where it should be....it doesn't look messed up either like if it would've sheared off. like he took it apart, and forgot to put it back in. so the crank should be splined?
thanx.

There is a key way (slot )in the crank. It indexes the pulley so the timing marks are correctly lined up.

cool, so i think i'm ok. i just got done pulling it. no spun bearings, but there was some minor scarring on the main bearings. you can see the marks in the pics, but my fingernail doesn't catch when i drag it across, so can it be buffed, and reused? this is my first motor tear down, so i'm learning what to look for. thanx for the help! the last pic shows the crank end i was refering to.

Journals look OK as long as they measure good. The crankshaft isn't splined. There should be just one keyway on the end.
