LS or b16 tranny for high boost?
For a retarded question, that involved no search, I'll give you your answer. You DEFINATELY want the B16 transaxle, it has shorter gears and will get you down the track faster. LS is a wack tranny, don't believe the idiots on here that'll try to tell you otherwise. Noob Power!

So what makes you any different than any other idiot on here?

If anyone tries to tell you that LS tranny's are better for boost becuase you "stay in boost longer", bunch them in the throat.
The b16 tranny is shorter geared and will get you down the track faster. But it also gets to a point where if you're making enough power, the first several gears may become useless to you, and you may HAVE to find a longer geared tranny. Or better slicks.
Post up your setup and it'll give us a better idea of which would suit you more. Tell us anything you can about your engine, goals for the car (street, strip, DD), and if all possible show us a dyno chart, or at least post your numbers.

Surprisingly we have a lot of customers that go with LS transmissions. They fair better with the longer gearing. There are a lot of factors involved and to be honest...its gonna take some trial and error to get your setup figured out and dialed in. What works for some car/team won't work another car/team in some situations
I would go with a B16 to start with...then work either up or down the gear ratio chart

There are still those guys that swear by it...they also prefer lower RPMs throughout the powerband...I can't speak for them..I build them as they request! LOL! I always suggest going with a B16 and play with the Final drive gears. If its not short enough...pop a 4.7 or 4.9 depending on situation. If its too short throw in a 4.27 and keep the shorter B16 gear stacks. Trial and Error

How about a GSR? Its in the middle, so that why maybe u wont have to go into 5th gear if u use a b16 transmission, but that all depeneds on ur tire size and rev limit. Post more info.
Hmm...my own opinion since I used both at one point.
The b16's shorter ratio will make it a monster in the acceleration department, would probably be the tranny of choice if you were doing strictly drag. The LS has far taller gears and obviously prolly doesn't accomplish the acceleration task the same..
But dig this.
EITHER WAY..a boosted motor will ROCKET through the gears on any trans..Tall or Short the things going to move because you're putting down hundreds more horsepower then the original configuration puts forth.
So while the gears in an LS may seem long, and tall...hell you get through em pretty damn quick with a Turbo under the hood, and with the b16 that becomes EVEN MORE the case.
the GSR Tranny is easily the best one for the task but if I had to suggest 1 or the other I'd probably say the LS. Less shifting, top-end bonus isn't bad either.
Just my 0.02.
if you want to race the car, find out what size tire you are going to use and pick a trans that will have you go through the traps high up in 4th gear.
more often than not, the gsr tranny provides the best versatility for street/strip applications
