Default low idle problem B16a2

First off I have B16a2 with I/E and run it on a gsr ecu. All this in a 97 ex with about 162,??? on the clock. I've been riding around like this for about 3 yrs now and it's been fine. It's always had low idle around 700 or so, but about a the beginning of Dec. I noticed it was taking longer to warm up than it usually does. Then I was coming to work and stopped a light and rpms dropped real low like it wanted to cut off on me. So figured its got 90,??? on the clock so lets get the valves adjusted, did that. When I picked it up it ran great it would idle at like 800-900 and all was good. The next day I go to work and the same **** as before is happening but a little worse. Now it idles low and after min or two you can hear this low popping noise coming from the exhaust. Oh and when I turn the heat on the thermostat goes down and I don't remeber it ever doing that. No CEL is showing, what is the mater with my baby

Thanks
Alex

Start by replacing your T-stat, prefferably with an OEM T-stat.

You engine temps go down with the heater on because in colder weather, when you turn on your heater, it is removing the heat from the coolant in the heatercore, and using the hot air to warm your *** up. In a sense, cooling the engine from another source, same as when in the dead of summer, if your car starts to overheat, you roll down the windows and turn the heather on, and that can usually help you from overheating.

and you may jsut need to adjust your running temp idle now that you have had your valves adjusted. It is easy to do. The adjsuter screw is on your throttlebody I'm sure. But you have to do it a certain way.

thanks guys, I forgot to mention it's not getting great gas mileage. I always get 29.3-29.5 no mater how I drive it and now I'm getting like 27.7-28.2 the last coulple of times I've filled up, what would cause that

A cold running engine.

BTW, my temp gauge has never moved noticeably when cranking up the heat.
