I already started a thread about my engine knock/vibration. I suspect maybe a loose flywheel. From anyone that's experienced a loose flywheel, can you actually observe it too see that it's outa whack? I was under the car and had someone rev the engine to see if I could see a wobble, from where the flywheel cover is supposed to be (don't have one). It looked totally smooth to me at all rpm's. Is it safe to assume I couldn't see it if it's only slightly loose? I'd rather not go through the effort of pulling my tranny to find everything is fine.

 

If your flywheel was loose you would know. It makes a loud *** noise everytime you engage the clutch pedal.

How do I know? Mine came loose before.

 

Engine knock. Pull the oil pan and examine the crank and bearings. Stop guessing and take some action.

 

I'm a bit concerned it's a bearing(s), but the vibration and noise is ONLY when the car is not in gear or in reverse. Everything is totally smooth and quiet when accelerating forward. Which I don't think is indicative of a spun bearing. The symptoms are present when shifting between gears. And it has been intermittent, a couple days last month the symptoms were gone. Very puzzling.

 

Will a bad tensioner cause a knock like this?

 

So the noise is coming from the driver side now?

 

Yeah, around the crank pulley area. Actually I think it's a bad bushing(s) on my innovative mounts. I guess the "street" durometer sets have a tendency to stretch.

 

Had a car from a customer same kind of noise but not a Honda she took to a shop before mine they took apart the whole side of the engine and still didn't fix the noise came to me the axel nut was loose allowing the axle to slap in and out of the spindle but didn't make any noise when the car accelerated.

 

Bad axles tend to make noise/vibrate when accelerating. There have been a lot of people who've had their pulley bolt come loose. If someone installs it and doesn't follow the OEM procedure TO THE LETTER, it can come out easy.

If it was the bushings, did you try smearing them with silicone grease? Aka faucet/plumbing grease. A tight ungreased poly bushing will "chatter" when it moves like a rubber squegee on a dry window. Sometimes the squeak isn't there, but the chatter is.
