Default Little help on a B16 build.

Ok looking to finally build my B16A2 block and I had a few questions. The car will be tracked on a road course with Auto-X's thrown in there and will probably spin to around 9,000ish.
1. Should I spend the money to have the crank knifed/polished/balenced? Benefits of this besides the obvious higher rev safety?
2. Looking to use the Probe Industries rods, comments?
3. Looking to use Arias pistons. Bore listed @ 3.346" and when I converted came out to be 84.987mm so I guess I can safely assume these are 85mm pistons which is what I am looking for. They are also rated at 12.1:1 compression in a B16A2 which is right where I am looking for.
4. Golden Eagle 85mm sleeves, opinions?
5. Is blueprinting necessary in the assembly process of this and could someone enlighten me a little further on this process.

I think these are the only questions I can think of right now. Thanks for your time.

Personally i think the b16 needs more torque, so i vote for 85mm sleeves in addition to some 12.1 comp pistons.

I guess I should have clarified that this is what I plan on running. When I put "opinions" or "comments" next to it, I meant that yes I'll be running these, opinions on the product themselves as in build quality and are there any outher recomendations. Thanks.

1. For the crank, knife edging is rarely need for street vehicles, but the balancing and polishing are good things to do. The benefits are smoother operation making it easier to rev. do it since your already have the engine disassembled.

4. GE has become very experienced in resleeving and offers good work.

5. Blueprinting is the process of assembling the engine to manufactures' specifications. having proper clearences and such offer better performance and reliabilty. This is also a good thing to do since you have your motor apart.

if you want to go cheap style, I think the stock bottom end b16 can handle a beating of 9k revs. But you might want to throw on some ARP rod bolts, and if you want to spend some more money for piece of mind, defintaely get the bottom end balanced. As far as knife edging, save your money, not worth it for a street car like the guy above me said. As far as Probe rods, I think import builders are the guys that use em, I have'nt heard anything bad about them but you might wanna do a search to see what pops up.

Thanks joe_bocc for the info.

SlowPoke: The B16 will rev to 9K on a stock bottom end all day long. I wanna go 85mm 12.1 Arias though with GE sleeves. Just asking for quality of parts I chose. Thanks though.

Are you going to go NA or forced induction?

Well with 12.1:1 compression, I'd say I'm gonna go NA.

with a B18C bottom youd have more torque and still rev to 9k with no problems and the best part is that you can build it on the side while still driving on your b16... ..just a very good sugestion...

B18C*
RS Machine Sleeves + Rods
Endyn RollerWave Pistons (84~86mm)

..GE sleeves well do just fine though..it just seems that RS Machine has been the "Racers Best Kept Secret!" ..btw, im not just suggesting..im planning this as well except with my B20 block....Peace, GoodLuck!

Thanks for the reply. That thought has crossed my mind quite often. See I was thinking building my block, but as you mentioned there will be down time, but I wouldn't have to purchase another block. Now boring my B16 out to 1.8L will give me the power I want, but still the same stroke so not really gaining much TQ. With the LS stock or bored to 2.0L or a CRV block this is gonna give me the most power and defenetly the most TQ, but I was always concerned with the rev range on these blocks. Sleeved, w/ upgraded interals and balenced and blueprinted I'd say what maybe 8,500rpm? Then there was the C1 block. I could bore this to 2.0L, have the best of both worlds. Great HP & TQ almost that of the above mentioned, but with a better R/S ratio with greater rev capabilitys. As you can see I still haven't fully made up my mind yet.

Also, Mr. Gasket makes a stock height 85mm bore head gasket for my motor. Anyone else? Thanks.

good thinking...
..if i could do it all over again i wouldve built my old C1..but didnt know then what i know now (not much but considerbly more)..im happy with my B20VTEC but..i still think an 84~86mm C1 wouldve been better....may you be happy with your final decision..good luck.
..ohyeah, since your road racing..you should stay away from LS/CR-VTEC's...not that they wont make as much power or not as reliable Factory VTEC motors (if built right)..its just, i kinda cringe at the thought...
also, a thought to chew on...picture a HOTT girl (or guy if your into that )..then you meet her and shes one WACK *** BITCH!!..like seriously **** up in the head..! straight WACK! good for one night maybe two..but nothing long...in this case this would be a motor that your reving to 11,000+ RPM...now you got a another girl/guy (?..lol jk) thats kinda just REALLY NICE...'down to earth' keeps its real..GReAT personality! but not the looks that you would dream about..unless it were a nightmare--but anyways..Now think about a girl that was almost just as HOTT as the first girl..BUT withOUT the WACKNESS!..almost just as nice and down to earth as the second one...Now think about which one you would choose....
