my car went into limp mode a few days ago after leaving the gas station from filling up (car was run to empty)

I parked it..pulled the ECU fuse a bunch of times 30 minutes..4 hours..12 hours..48 hours. each time it still wouldnt rev past 4,000.

i just got another ECU tonight..and I just put it in..now I've got an idle problem..like a tps issue..but there's no code for that..it just revs in neutral up and down.

i shut the car off..waited a minute and tried to go for a ride.

limp mode still there..i got down the street and my CEL came on..I got a code 12 now.

the 92-00 civic thread has their FAQ codes thread and in there it says:

12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve

i'll put my original ECU back in and see what happens

will a bad EGR cause a car to go into limp mode?

also..could it be the ECU thats messed up that cause the code 12?

 

i switched my ECU back...no CEL no codes..i didnt rev to see if its in limp mode still..i'm assuming it is though.

is it that the ECU i bought..is bad...or is my ECU unable to read that my car is throwing a code?

 

i reset the ECU the proper way...

still throws a code 12..still the CEL..still the fluncuating idle.

still my biggest concern..i need to figure out whether this guy sold me a bad ECU or not.

 

the only civic that had an EGR valve 92-95 5th gen. was the three door hatchback VX the ECU is know as the P07

i was just using that as a referrence..as that code thread is in that forum.

 

 

 

 

car decided it wanted to work again this morning..posted from my thread in integra...

okay...so my new (bad) ecu was plugged in and the car has sat since thursday without being touched.
i just went out there..plugged my original ecu back in..went two minutes down the road..car is fine. revs all the way up, full power..everything.

what the ****.

i really dont want to go to the car again in fear of it acting up
