go to any garage that can turn rotors and they will be able to lighten your flywheel. they should also have the specs on how light they can make it without it being too light for the stock flywheel.

correct me if i am wrong, but when shaving down a stock flywheel, doesn't it have to be balanced as well? If you shave 6 lbs off your flywheel, there is no way that it will still be balanced. The result? Ruined bearings, and possiblly damaged journals? I remeber Mistabone saying something about using non balanced pullies, and it screwed his motor, so therefore, would the same theory not apply to a flywheel?

I've never heard of anyone lightening their flywheel at a garage. If you want a really poor job, then just find some moron with a lathe and he'll do it for you, but if you want it done properly, get a qualified machine shop to lighten AND balance it. After all, the flywheel does rotate at a considerable rate, unlike brake rotors.

ok, before calling my father a moron, maybe you should check into that. that is exactly what my father did for the ep crx that we race. all you have to do is shave down the flywheel. after that, yes it should be balanced. i am not sure where he sent it to be balanced with the clutch, but it has been done. there have been no problems with the flywheel or the clutch and there have been three of us racing this car at every event all day long. thank you.

anyway, if you can't find someone who can lighten a flywheel, just take it to a mechanic and have them shave it down. they may even be able to balance it there too, if they have the equipment.

Just get an aluminum flywheel from clutchmasters- groupbuy usually has them under $300. An improperly lightened flywheel that explodes can kill people- I prefer to go the safe route. Unless you know someone that knows what they are doing.

when i lightened my flywheel, i had it balanced along with my bottom end b/c i was doing an entire engine rebuild.

have a machine shop lightened and balance the flywheel. your not going to get more than 2-3 lbs off the stock part, though...

I got mine at Sohfast.com for my civic. I changed it when I was doing my clutch. Saves time when you already have one shaved and balanced and you can pop it in along with the clutch. (You don't have to stop in the middle of changing your clutch and go to a shop) When you're done just send it back to get your core exchange
