Default Let's talk ECU's!

Alright... I'm sure most of you are running a stock ECU in your ITR's, and some are probably running OBD1 conversion harnesses with chipped P28's or P30's.

Now... I had a Civic Coupe that some of you may know of that was running 12.80's@106mph N/A. In that setup, I was running the "MUGEN" chipped P28. I had this ECU from day one with the motor I built, so I really didn't get to test/try out any other ECU's.

Have any of you swapped in and out various ECU's in your ITR while on a dyno? I'm staying N/A for now and am curious if I should go with a OBD1 converter + P28, or keep the P73 ITR ECU, and run a O2 simulator for the test pipe + maybe a VAFC.

Any comments, thoughts, or experiences are appreciated. Thanks.

I've used the following.

Mugen - Heavy fuel and timing curve
PYR - Moderate fuel, agressive timing curve
JUN - Moderate fuel, moderate timing curve

I prefer the PYR, but use with caution. They moderate fuel, and agressive curve puts the engine close to detonation all the time. Good to have a VAFC also to smooth out the lean spots.

Louis,

Email me. I can sell you a harness/ECU package at a good price. It is the same setup I have in my '98 ITR.

I dyno'd three ECU's back to back on a B20 Civic. 11.5:1 compression, ITR cams, etc.
Stock ITR computer did decent, but nothing spectacular.
Skunk P28 made about 10 more than the ITR on top, maybe 2-3 in the middle.
PYR ECU dominated on that B20. Made 15 more hp and tq than the Skunk from 4000-7000rpm.

On my Integra, which is just a B18C5 w/ a ported head, stock cams and bolt-ons.. the PYR lost power in the middle, and the Skunk ECU fared the best.

I guess each motor is different.

Also, FWIW.. I tried a STOCK 95 P72 in my Integra, and it made within 1hp of the Skunk ECU until it slammed into the rev limiter at 8100. LOL.
But then again, my AFC was already dialed in, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.. because I tuned my AFC for the Skunk program.

...well recently, I had a friend who dynoed a GSR with the Mugen OBD1 program and it made around 17hp by just plugging it in or a little tuning was involved (can't remember). I thought maybe that program wouldn't be to compatible with a turbo application......I guess I was wrong!

From my expertise and info I've gathered....
The mugen program is the best bang fo yo buck program right now, for OBD1 equipped cars with single-butterfly intake manifolds.

but from what Mike says, I guess the PYR program is worthy too.

hrm, I wonder what Peter & Sope are up to these days, speaking of PYR.

Jason,

What ever happened to PYR anyways? I haven't heard much lately.
