Default Legit block??

Hey guys need some help with a block. This kid wants to sell me this block but he has no papers, he claims that the block is a honda warranty block.

kinda hard to believe but then he shows me this on the block.

and the block doesnt have a vin plate either.

I know that can be removed but it doesnt look like someone tried to remove it. Does anyone know what that R DOT stands for??

Thanks for ur help

Marcos

I am NOT 100% positive about the RDOT id but would agree it's a oem honda replacement block. I have a road racing customer that owns a Honda & Acura dealership and supplies these same blocks for his builds. Toyota has a similar marking on their blocks.

You blocked out the block serial #. What's the first digit? Zero??

I've heard that factory replacement engine blocks or whole engines have first digit zero, but I don't know if it's really true?

ps. Either here or on Honda-Acura.net someone claiming to work at Honda said that. That's where I originally heard about the 1st digit being tied to the production year. But he said if it wasn't installed into a new car at the factory, then the first digit was zero.

The replacement block would explain why the vin plate is missing.

Just because it's an engine that Honda didn't install into a car on the assembly line, that doesn't prove it's not stolen. Wouldn't hurt to run the serial # past the cops...

[QUOTE=doublej]I am NOT 100% positive about the RDOT[QUOTE]

RDOT is what they put on replacment parts, because they don't have VIN's

R=Replaced DOT= ceritfied by the Department of tranportation

thats not a vin plate location, in the picture, look on the back of the motor on the bottom left under the alternator, the vin plate should be there since this is a b16a2 motor which is obd2

it might not that easy (depending on where you are). out here, you can't run engine numbers over the phone, they require you to bring the block in to the CHP. if it comes up stolen, they keep it and you are SOL.

some motors do not have the vin tag on the back. Not too confident, but i believe somewhere around 94 or 95 they started putting them on the back
