Leaky Engine Oil ? for Techs
Hey guys,
My girlfriend's 2000 civic wouldn't start up last week. Had the battery checked out, all was ok with that... so couldn't quite figure out what was wrong. Apparently her dad found a bunch of engine oil leaking (haven't verified for sure what was leaking, though he seems to believe it's this). He was able to start the car though. Now he says as you go from reverse to drive, there's a big kick...
Any ideas as to what this is from? Did the oil change a few months ago, so it seems weird that that much oil leaked all of a sudden. Think that it may have been a transmission fluid leak, but it seems kind of odd for it to happen all of a sudden as well...
Could you guys think of what may have triggered this? Any ideas as far as what kind of damages may have occured? She also has 20k on it... hoping it'll be covered under warranty?
Anything helps...
Thanks
Steve

low tranny oil wouldnt keep it from starting, and atf and oil look totally different so what are you looking at? and if it only has 20k then why are you asking? just have it towed to the dealership, honda warranty will pay for the tow bill as well.
no... not a lowered civic... nothing funky like that... though i was thinking maybe that she ran over something that maybe kicked up? feel like that's unlikely, and she should have heard something... don't think that's the case....
as far as the warranty though... worried they'll end up charging.... called up the dealership today... they were predictably ambiguous saying that it depends.... of course it depends.... flakes....
anyways... they were saying something along the lines of bring it in.... they'll check it out... see if it's a manufacturer defect.... if so, then they cover it... if not... then they won't... and they'll charge for the diagnosis... that was pretty lame i thought... you have to bring it in...
only way you don't pay is if it's their fault....
worth it or not? that's why i was trying to get some info if possible....
thanks...

well... initially when the car wouldn't start, we thought that maybe lights were left on or something... and the battery drained... just checked to make sure that it wasn't a dead battery....
i failed to check underneath the car, which is what my girlfriend's dad did, when he noticed all the fluids...
that's where we began to think maybe it wasn't an electrical problem, and maybe something else... unless something electrical can cause this type of leak???
