So I am confused. My initial problem is that my engine smokes a lot and burns hella oil. I am suspecting valve seals and/or rings. I seem to have plenty of power. I have asked around and heard many say do a leakdown test. After searching thru here, I;ve read a leakdown test wont find those issues. Is this true? I was going to buy one tomorrow and test. I did a compression test about a year ago. I cant remember my numbers, I posted in a diff forum which I will search for in a sec. Hopefully with this years tax refund I can rebuild if thats my issue, which I bet would help. Any help would be very greatly appreciated

It's always good to have a leakdown tester and there not that much money go to summit racing there pretty cheap there. Do a compression test and a leak down test. Both will give you a good idea whats going on or atleast were the problem is. Thats what a leakdown test really dose it will tell you how much of a problem you have and were the problem exists. Whats symptoms are you having. weres the smoke comming from ? whats color ? do a compression test and post the numbers and set-up

my last compression test was a year ago. I will do new one this weekend hopefully. I get blue smoke usually first start up (not every time oddly) some days bellowing some days just a short puff. I also get black smoke on VTEC. Unsure of when cruising. I have soot all around my bumper where the muffler is. I seem to have plenty of power
Could be old warn rings.Or warn cylindar walls. Do a leakdown test as stated and It should give you a good idea of were the problem exists. Whats is your set-up is itm stock or turbo- all motor. what size in jectors is it tuned ? ? ? Do a leak down test and then go from there With out ripping a motor apart to find it. it's the best way. I think after you do your compression test IF your numbers are low you can do a wet compression test and if the numbers go up it means your rings are bad I believe.
