my friends hb revs by itself, can anyone please help. he said it has to do something with the distributor or something. he has a 92 eg dx. can this problem be fixed easily by ourselves or does it need to go to the shop. thanks for all the help.

Happened to me alot in my old truck, it was just some slow moving throttle cables.

 

it sounds like a vacume leak.
if it was a dist. problem the engine wouldnt get enough air (because thats how an engine works, you give it air, you then give more fuel, then spark. if its getting too much spark and the throttle plate is closed it will just detonate and not do anything but sound horrible.)

 

How high does it rev and do you hear any major vacum leaks? It can be a sensor related problem as well. You need to give us a little more description.

yes, it does sound like a vacuum leak.Do you hear anything differant as it revs higher? Maybe something is wrong with the pedals

 

it revs up and down, probably til about 3krpm then down then up...

 

its a vacuum leak
take carb cleaner
spray it around the intake manifold and throttle body gasket.
when the idle starts to steady out, you found the leak.

also take off the idle air control valve and clean it

 

if its only when the car is cold it is the fast idle valve
