Just installed p28, vtec doesnt work..
sup guys, i just installed a p28 (virgin) w/ obd conversion harness.
after i installed it, i took it around the block and it didnt seem like my vtec was working, i just got an oil change about 200 miles ago.
also i have 112,000 miles on my b16, could it be vtec solenoid?? it worked before but would stop like 700 miles before my oil changes.
when i went from my stock P2T to my p28, vtec didnt work at all. when i put the p2t back, it was faulty in first and second gear, but 3rd gear can be heard very well.
by the way, i have intake/headers/straight pipe. the p28 is a virgin, but why wouldnt vtec work???

If it engages intermittantly when the oil is dirty like you said, try cleaning the solenoid out, it might be gummed up.

The ecu doesn't know or care what motor it's connected to. It will run lean, and a little funny, but nothing some fuel pressure and tuning can't fix.

whats wrong with your stock p2t ecu, or are you just doing a obd1 conversion? Im a big fan of using the correct ecu for the year/motor. So the obd1 b16 ecu is the p30. If your gonna run hondata or something you can tune, then the p28 will work.
BTW..............maybe your p28 is bad

If you have Crome or uberdata, you can tune the ecu to run your motor the best. For just plug and play, the P30 is what you need. The P28 will run lean unless you up the fuel pressure a bit, and even then, it won't be 100% right for that engine. It is perfect for chipping and tuning, however.

cool. how much was your guys' average cost for dyno+tuning?
should i just stick with my p2t until i turbo (6 months till completion date) or just spend the money for tuning and everything now to make it simpler in the future and benefit some power?

Get everything ready, and then convert to obd1, turbo, ect. Just spending the $ now wont save you anything. You'll have to retune which is more $. Dont half *** it. That will make it simpler and make some power. Its kinda like getting a body kit, putting it on, then not painting it. Half assed. Do it right the first time
