jerky transmission - could it be throttle position sensor?
I have a 2000 JDM Honda Torneo (same mechanicals as the JDM Accord), CF4 chassis, F20B engine, automatic.
I have this problem whereby the transmission seems to be confused about which gear it should be in and then eventually "clunks" into the right gear. Ok let me give you a typical scenario:
I'm cruising along coming to an intersection, I take my foot off the gas and start applying gentle brake pressure and the car's speed is reducing almost to a complete stop. As I reach the intersection, I see that it's all clear, then put my foot back on the gas. At that point, it would "clunk". If i had come to a complete stop before stepping on the gas, it would be fine. But not if it was still moving when I applied gas.
Funnily enough, a friend who has the same car has this very same issue and he's barely clocked 50,000km on the odometer!
I have had the transmission fluid drained and refilled (using Honda ATF-Z1 of course) and no real difference unfortunately.
I'm beginning to suspect that the problem lies with the TPS and not the tranny.
Is it common for the TPS to need replacement/adjustment? I didn't think it was a "wear" item but there seems to be so many threads on TPS issues.
I've just purchased myself a multimeter and was gonna take off the TPS and check the voltages/resistance etc but just thought I'd see what you guys thought about the idea of the TPS causing rough shifting in the tranny?
